my opinion on, The Secondhand Bookseller, by Nemat

I recently read, The Secondhand Bookseller, by Marina Nemat. It was a very intriguing short novel in my opinion. I thought that it went into much detail about how the second hand bookstore was and also about how hot it was out the day she had went. There was something about this short novel that caught my eye, whether it was the generosity that the salesman showed, or how intrigued Marina was about reading, or even how Marina managed to find a way to get books even though she didn’t have much money to spend.
I like how Marina talks about her passion of reading and also how she tells us readers about what she had to go through in order to get the books. I think it is sad that her family didn’t have enough money to buy books and that that was her hobby. I think that the bookkeeper, Albert, is truly Marina’s angle looking out for her. It was a kind thing that Albert did to help supply Marina with the reading material that she wanted allowing her to grow as a strong reader.
Marina is an intelligent girl and I really enjoyed this short novel. The detail she went into helped me to understand what she was talking about and also made me feel like I was there. She showed me what was going on not told. I wish we all could find people as kind as Albert and wish I would be as interested in reading as Marina.

  1. I agree with what Austin said in his blog.I felt like Marina story that she told was very interesting. Marina used very descriptive words to show us how exactly things were and how they looked. Marina seemed like a very shy child growing up and i wish she would of explained further more into detail about her relationship with her mother. I waited to read the excerpt at the beginning of the story and that completly changed how i viewed the story and what i thought would happen to her.i couldnt believe that she would get arrested. I felt like Albert was a very nice guy letting Marina borrow his books. Marina seemed like a very well responsible girl by trying to buy the books for herself and earning the money by selling her stuff ot her friend. After talking in class today it changed my view on the whole story on it being more of a religious thing. This story has been very interesting and i agree with everything austin has said.
